Grove City Mayor Aims for Ohio House Seat

April 11, 2007 - Grove City Mayor Cheryl L. Grossman has announced her intention to seek the Ohio House of Representatives seat for the 23rd District.  State Representative Larry Wolpert who will be term limited in 2008 presently holds the seat.

Mayor Grossman began her public service in 1994 when she was elected to Grove City Council and subsequently elected as mayor in 1996.  She is completing her third term as Grove City mayor. During her tenure, she has dedicated her efforts to increased economic development in Grove City, tripling tax revenues by 300 percent in the past 10 years. With a solid focus on youth and families, Mayor Grossman also served as co-chair of the YMCA steering committee that helped raise $1.8 million to fund the new Grove City YMCA in Fryer Park. Additionally, she partnered on the development of the Pinnacle Golf Course Community, and was among the leaders who worked to develop the 2-million-square-foot retail center known as Parkway Centre.

“From my first year on City Council to this last year in the Mayor’s Office, I have always placed enhanced amenities for all citizens at the top of my priorities,” Grossman said. “Grove City’s quality of life is second to none, and that is due to an exceptional team effort. I have been extremely fortunate to work with good people – from community organizations, to City Council, to the valued City staff.  They love Grove City, just as I do, and I’m sincerely grateful for the many unique opportunities to work side by side with so many passionate citizens. I wish to continue that work in a new capacity.”

Mayor Grossman serves on the Ohio Retirement Study Council, is a Board Member of the Central Ohio YMCA, a member of the Ohio Public Works Integrating Committee, an Executive Board Member of the Franklin County Emergency Management Agency, a Board Member of the South-Western Education Foundation, and a Founding Member of the Grove City Rotary Club.  She also serves on the Community and Economic Development Committee for the National League of Cities, is a Board Member and Past President of the Central Ohio Municipal Council, is a Board Member of the Franklin County Housing Advisory Board, and was recently appointed to the Franklin County Community Action Agency.

She is the recipient of the Columbus Board of Realtors Citizen of the Year Award, the Boy Scouts Simon Kenton Council Award, and The American Cancer Society Relay for Life Honoree and the South-Western City Schools Apple Award.

Cheryl and her husband Ron have been married for 36 years.  Her family includes son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Emily Grossman, and son, Joshua Grossman.
